Today we slept in a bit. Everyone had a good night's rest and jet lag seemed to be over, so we boarded a train at 9:30 a.m. for Helsingor Castle. The train ride was about 30 minutes and the landscape mostly looked like the "pine to prairie" region of Minnesota.
Our guided tour through the castle was very informative, especially regarding the ostentatious dining of the royals and their guests a few centuries ago, but we had the best time exploring the dungeon on our own.
At the Castle Olav Nielsen (the principal from Odense, Denmark who has joined us for a few days) treated us all to a Danish lunch. It was a rather fancy little place. We each had three small open sandwiches of shrimp and smoked salmon, brie cheese and turkey, and beef with mustard mayonaise. It was very good - not your standard fare in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
In the afternoon we visited the Danish Resistance Museum, which provided a good history lesson about World War II. The evening was free time and most went to Tivoli Gardens, a large entertainment park which is only about three blocks from our hotel.
